Label CopyNot much is known of the biography of Shen Zhi, except that he was from Xiushui in Zhejiang province, and was born around 1618. The inscription on this landscape reads:

Luxuriant valley and soaring peak now turn to autumn
The lodge in the park is swept, bamboos give coolness and seclusion
Casually, leaning on a staff, I idly come and go,
From time to time with the mountain monk I talk over former journeys

For my friend Kai-yuan,
painted in the style of Cao Yunxi [of the Yuan period]
