Label CopyDuring the full moon of the sixth lunar month, the Sanno festival is celebrated with a procession to accompany an image of the Shinto Mountain King. Here a dancer in elaborate costume stands atop one of the festival floats waving a gohei wand with Shinto paper symbols. We watch the scene from the viewpoint of a member of the crowd looking up toward the full moon, which was printed with a bright metallic pigment.
