Label CopyThis deep Maya bowl is decorated with incised relief panels depicting human figures; its surface is decorated with burnished red slip with traces of white over-paint. The bowl's non-standard iconography points to an origin somewhere on the periphery of the Maya sphere of influence. The style of these figures is non-Maya in several respects; ordinarily, muscles are not defined in Maya art, but these figures appear to have well-defined biceps. The white paint is also brighter than the creamy off-white or pale buff colors typically associated with Maya pottery.
