Label CopyYamamoto Baiitsu served as an official painter for the Owari daimyo in Nagoya and became a prominent leader among Japanese literati painters. Through his studies and copying of Chinese paintings in the collection of the merchant Kamiya Ten’yu, Baiitsu mastered techniques that became the foundation of his own style of meticulous and graceful brushwork.
Baiitsu was a prolific painter of bird and flower subjects. In addition to conveying a grand celebration of nature, the pheasants, peonies, bamboo, chrysanthemums and rock symbolize the admirable qualities of scholars and express a wish for success and high rank.
