Label CopyThe host appears by an arched doorway. Hidden behind the doorway is a tea preparation area, known as mizuya. Greeting her guests and holding a tray of sweets, the host is about to enter the room and offer sweets for her guests to enjoy. In Japanese tea ceremony, it is customary to have sweets before having tea. Mizuno Toshikata’s A Tea Ceremony Periwinkle is a well-known series of prints that illustrate different scenes of Japanese tea ceremony.
