Label CopyLu Hui was a revivalist painter in Suzhou in the early twentieth century. In his early career he specialized in bird-and-flower painting but after exposure to the Shanghai collection of Wu Dacheng, he studied old paintings firsthand and adeptly followed the landscape techniques of ancient masters such as Dong Yuan, Mi Fu, Huang Gongwang, and the orthodox painters of the early Qing. In both Shanghai and Suzhou, he was admired as a classic literati artist and connoisseur.
