Title: Color System
Date: 2005
Medium: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 70 x 80 inches (177.8 x 203.2 cm)
Credit Line: Acquired through the generosity of Helen Appel, Class of 1955, and Robert J. Appel, Class of 1953
Object Number: 2006.090
Label Text: Greenbaum’s seemingly improvisational painting brings the viewer into a labyrinth of shapes and bright colors where paint is employed in highly graphic ways. Pigment spins furiously to create moving disks and then branches out into an intricate series of grids that weave in and out of each other across the canvas. The overall effect is joyous and chaotic suggesting doodlelike abstractions conceived on a monumental scale.
