Label Text: Gu Fang was a professional painter from Huating, Jiangsu province and a protégé of the master Wang Hui, with whom he served as a court artist in the imperial painting studio. Gu counted as a prominent member of the team of artists, led by Wang Hui, who collaborated on a series of handscrolls documenting the emperor Kangxi’s southern inspection tour.

Here Gu paints in the blue-green style that harkens back to Tang-dynasty landscape painting.
