The obverse features what is described as a force of nature symbolized by a face emerging from a body of water (the water level is to the upper-lip). The face is wearing some sort of bead-ornamentation on its head that is covered by long hair that is parted down the middle. Reeds or waterplants symmetrically frame the face while a seasnail shell has been centrally placed at the bottom. The female is seen from the bottom with knees bent and arms over her head, as if swimming into the current. The male figure is seen from the side, with one leg bent and arms in a swimming motion, as if struggling as well. The outside of the scene features the inscription, \"(GREEK WORD FOR OCEAN?)
