Continuous horizontal landscape with willow trees and thatched-roof cottage as leitmotif.  Human activities amply represented by men seated or standing face to face in pavilion and in one of the many cottages or boats.  Stone bridge opens the scenary, with lush willow trees on both sides. Several clusters of cottage along the river, on which one fishing boar is anchored at shore, another is further out on the water, and one passenger boat is crossing.  Textured and dotted mountains with interspered clouds in the background; silhoutte of ink-wash in blue and grey represent distant mountains just above the horizon.  Executed in the Wu school style best represented by scholar-artist Shen Zhou of the 15th century.  Qin Yi is known in his own lifetime for painting willow trees.  Poetic inscription (8 lines, 5 characters each) by the artist, include signature and two seals.______Also known under his alternate name of Qin Fengkang, Qin Yi lived in the scenic region of Suzhou. He gained considerable fame for his depictions of willow trees, and this handscroll is an excellent example of his ability to evoke their gracefulness.
