Label CopyAmong the most popular quilt motifs, star designs require skill and precision in cutting and stitching. The cloth diamond points, cut on the bias, must align perfectly or the star will buckle and not lie flat. There are many varieties of these designs, including Evening Star, Star of the West, Texas Star, Star of Bethlehem, and Sunburst, to name a few. In this strikingly bold quilt, eight-pointed stars with light tips are situated within turquoise hexagons set on a brilliant yellow-orange ground. A fine example of the affective qualities of color, one can almost feel the blazing heat of the harvest sun, for which the pattern is named.
