Label CopyIrish-born newspaperman and military officer Francis Brinkley (1841–1912) lived in Japan for more than four decades and served as an advisor to the Meiji government. Publisher of the Japan Mail, which was the most influential English-language newspaper, he also produced a sumptuous multivolume set of books about Japan beginning in 1897, which was reprinted in several limited editions. This volume comes from the Mikado edition and includes hand-colored albumen photographs.
