The obverse features the right facial profile portrait of a man wearing the head of a lion upon his head, with wings emerging above his ears.  In the lower right is what appears to be the parts of a steam engine, with a flywheel, connecting rod, and crank shaft--with the figure's image seen upon the gears.  The reverse features a sprig of laurel leaves behind a hand holding a miniature version of this exact commemorative medal.
