Griswold78.098.0350This Buddha is seated cross-legged with his right hand placed near his bent knee and lowered towards the ground in the Maravijaya pose. This meditating posture and hand gesture, known as "calling the earth to witness," marks the moment before Buddha attained enlightenment. The robe is represented by a raised line across his chest and a thin stip of cloth over one shoulder. A thin, clinging robe allows the contours of the chest and abdomen to "shine through." Arms, hands and fingers smooth and rounded, and naturally curved.
