Label CopyDuring the Sukhothai period, the walking Buddha with one hand raised in the abhaya mudra (gesture of reassurance) was one of the most popular representations of the Buddha. The majority of Sukhothai votive tablets portray either the standing or walking Buddha. These tablets were typically placed together with other sacred objects, such as relics and Buddha images, in one or more containers, and then laid in the relic chamber of a stupa.
