An alternate interpretation of this decorative style is that the lines represent face paint or tattoos, which are known from painted figures from this same time period and culture, as well as from neighboring culture areas and other time frames in this same geographic area.  The head shape shows pronounced cranial deformation, and the individual wears a bilobe nose ornament.  The figure's mouth is open, showing teeth; traces of red-orange paint remain around the eyes, on the right ear, and on the right side of the head or headdress.  The head is broken off just below the neck."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Ceramic"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["74.053.115_d0565_033","74.053.115_d0565_034"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Figurine Head"},"classification":{"label":"Classifications","value":"Ceramics"},"primaryMedia":{"value":"https://emuseum.cornell.edu/internal/media/dispatcher/72128/full"},"culture":{"label":"Culture","value":"La Tolita (Ecuador)"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"ca. 300 B.C. - A.D. 600"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"216324"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches (8.9 x 6.4 cm)"}}]}
