Her right arm is upright and holds a veil of cloth that forms a kind of billowing canopy while a star shines brightly abover her head.  She stands amid rubble and fallen trees, a single oak branch rises from the ground at her side.  In the distance a panoramic view of the city of San Fancisco, California can be seen.  The reverse depicts the allegorical figure of France seated upon a ledge before a vision of the ocean.  She is seen wearing a phrygian cap (Liberty cap), playing an instrument (?), with a Roman fasces at her feet.
