The obverse features a right profile bust of Thomas Edison along with an inscription. Sprigs of laurel and oak leaves are also seen beneath. The reverse features a nude youth standing in a contrapposto pose, holding cords or wires in his hands. The wires lead back to a lightbulb that is seen brilliantly lit and fastened atop an elaborate pedastal. Behind the youth stands an allegorical female figure who holds a palm frond in her right hand and a crown of laurel leaves in the other as if she intends to crown the youth victoriously.
