The shape "suggests a bamboo thrust into a gourd" (Gompertz, Korean Celadon, p. 21). The body and neck are octagonally faceted. Near the top, a tendril forms a loop that at one time probably was used to secure a stopper by means of a cord or fibre, or, possible, to hold a cord for hanging the bottle. Each of the eight sides of the body has an incised spray of foliage, either lotus or a fruit branch (pomegranate). At the base of both the neck and body are incised bands of lotus petals. Just below the base of the neck is a decorative band surrounded by a circle of jui sceptre-heads. Each facet of the neck is incised with two arabesque forms which represent clouds. The top of the neck has a key fret border. The bluish-green glaze is badly crackled, and one side of the body has a large light yellowish-brown patch which obscures the underlying incised pattern. Most would attribute this to 'tomb discoloration', or long contact with water or soil. Gompertz suggests that such blemishes probably occurred during the process of firing.
