The recessed base plate is glazed. The box is plainly decorated with seven arabesque forms on the bottom part, incised with a fine point. The box is Chinese Yueh ware, which influenced early Koryo celadons. As evident on the interior of the base and interior rim of the cover, the body is of a close-grained, grayish, porcellaneous clay. The glaze is thinly applied. These characteristics, as well as plainness of design, are also typical of Yueh ware. The exterior has one bad crack on the bottom part, and a few chips along the top rim of the bottom part. The thin interior rim of the bottom part, to whcih the cover fits, is badly chipped. Lid is in good condition. One small crack straddles the rim. Two pinhead chips on top. Lower part of box is in fairly poor condition. Foot ring is chipped, @ 1-1/4" One horizontal crack on outer wall, @ 2-1/2". One vertical crack on outer wall below a chip, @ 3/4". One large and several small chips on outerwall near lip rim. Inside rim of box badly chipped and broken.
