The middle vertical panel shows two torture scenes from hell, under the Buddist Wheel of the Law. Over and under the Wheel stand altogether seven monks who observe the torture scenes with mildly amused expressions under raised eyebrows (!). Each of the flanking panels is divided into five vertically stacked frames, each showing one king/lord of hell, dressed like an official, seated at his writing desk before a piece of blank paper, with their writing brush raised, ready to write down the judgement of a deceased soul. Each king/lord is attended by an attendant. The bottom panel shows two demonic figures stoking the fires in two ovens into which naked bodies have just been thrown head first; three officials are watching.
