Classified as one of the Eight Masters of Xiling, he was admired for his paintings of orchid, bamboo, and plum blossoms. While serving as an official in Yixing, he met the skilled teapot- makers Yang Pengnian and his sister. From them Chen learned to make the kind of purple-clay teapots Yixing is famed for.The plum trees in this work are arranged in a creative and balanced composition, and represent a natural and free style using the circled-petal approach.
